COMMISSIONS

I accept very few commissions.

If you really want to work with me, get in touch. We’ll talk about what you’re thinking, why you’ve come to me specifically, and whether it’s something I want to make.

If it is, there will be a proper discovery process before I touch a paintbrush. We’ll nail down the subject, the story and the general direction together.

After that, you let me do what you came to me for.

You bring the story. I make the art.

BEFORE YOU ASK

Please look at the evidence before approaching the witness.

A commission is not an opportunity to have me paint something completely outside my practice because you happen to like the way I hold a brush.

I don’t do soft pastel portraits on wispy clouds. I don’t match paintings to curtains. And no, Susan, I still won’t make the background periwinkle blue.

I do what I do.

If you’ve looked through my work and thought, Yes. That. But something made specifically for me, then we should probably talk.

Commissions are priced significantly higher than comparable available work, require a 50% non-refundable deposit and take time. No rush commissions.

WHY THE DISCOVERY PROCESS?

Because we’re making the thing once.

We’ll spend time figuring out the subject, the story and why it matters before I touch a paintbrush. Once we’ve nailed that down and I’ve agreed to take it on, I take it from there.

Seems obvious, but so does measuring a sofa before trying to get it through the front door.

The initial conversation is complimentary. Once we agree to move forward, a 50% non-refundable deposit officially books your commission. I don’t begin concept development, sourcing or painting until the deposit is paid.

The remaining balance is due when the work is complete, before shipping or delivery.

THINK WE SHOULD WORK TOGETHER?

Tell me what you have in mind, why it matters to you, and why you want me to make it.

If you’ve made it this far and you’re still thinking yes, we should probably talk.
