So give these online art sales ideas a try. You never know.
1. Sell Your Art Prints
Here’s a no brainer – Sell prints of your artwork. From posters to canvases, your art can be enjoyed by a wider audience and priced to fit various budgets. You can start your online store on platforms like Society6 or Red Bubble (this is my MERCH SHOP the payout is very low but costs me nothing) and it won’t cost you a penny… they even handle shipping. But if you’d like to keep more of a percentage you could open a store on Etsy, Shopify or Square (my FREE Square store).
2. Start a Print-on-Demand Art Brand
Creating a print-on-demand art brand allows you to offer a range of products without the hassle of printing and storing inventory. Partnerships with companies like Printify or *Printful can make this venture even more accessible. (*Printful is my print partner for these tees & Hoodies)
3. Do Commission Jobs
This one isn’t new to me but I have decided to promote it more, especially my pet portraits because they are a quick fun way to create. Custom art can be in high demand, especially around the holidays which is why I have had to close the commission process till December. Friends, family, and your social media followers can become your first clients. You can also find commission opportunities on platforms like Artstation, Twitch, or DeviantArt though I haven’t gone that route just yet.
4. Work on Freelance Projects
If you’re looking to gain experience and earn income, freelancing is a fantastic option. Platforms like Upwork, Freelancer, and Fiverr offer opportunities in various creative fields.
5. Teach Art Online or In person
Sharing your artistic skills and knowledge through online courses is a rewarding endeavor. Websites like Skillshare and Teachable can help you connect with a global audience eager to learn from you. I am in the process of working on something.
6. Start a YouTube Channel
Consider starting a YouTube channel to showcase your artistic journey just don’t do what I did and create a channel that currently does nothing 🤷♀️ . While it may not be a substantial source of income right away, over time, it can grow and potentially earn you money through product reviews, influencer partnerships, affiliate marketing, or merchandise sales.
7. Collaborate with Others
Don’t be afraid to collaborate with influencers, fellow artists, or community organizations. Partnerships can introduce your work to new audiences and lead to exciting art projects. I partnered with THE OREO CAT to start my pet portrait business.
8. Enter Art Contests
Participating in art contests is a great way to showcase your skills while potentially earning cash prizes that range from $50 to $60,000. Look for contests that align with your artistic style and interests.
9. Apply for Artist Grants
Artistic grants provide financial support for your creative projects. Many organizations, art institutions, and even established artists offer grants that can help cover your expenses and fund your work. I know several artists who have gotten a FREE WEBSITE and grants from https://digitalmainstreet.ca/ they are a partnership between the Government of Canada and the Province of Ontario delivering programs that support businesses across Canada.
10. Start a Crowdfunded Project
Crowdfunding platforms like GoFundMe, Kickstarter, and IndieGoGo can help you raise funds for your creative projects.
Remember, as artists, we’re often driven by the passion to create and express ourselves. Turning your passion into a full-time career is entirely possible. Embrace the journey, keep an open mind, and don’t be discouraged by economic challenges or limited local opportunities. With persistence and consistency, you can explore these avenues successfully and find your own unique path to becoming a full-time artist.
